[SIZE=3]Today I noticed the freezer was starting to thaw on our GE Profile Arctica. Moved frozen foods to fridge / freezer in garage. An hour or two later, the fridge seemed to quit cooling.
I can hear a motor running, like it does when the door is open. This is a side by side with an ice / water dispenser in the freezer door. Dispenser still dispenses water, but it’s not cold.

Is the compressor warm or hot? Turn the entire unit off for a few minutes and have someone turn it back on while you watch and listen to the compressor and the starter relay. See if you hear a click or other noise. Look for a different part number also.
The compressor appears to be room temperature. I turned off the unit for a while and then turned it back on. The only sound I hear was the condensor fan starting up again. I open the door to the freezer and only warm air is being blown in. From you experience does that should like a reasonably repairable or am I better off buying a whole new unit.
Based on what you’ve said you have compressor problem or freon leak. Fixing the leak and recharging the freon is cheaper than new compressor. Might want a trusted tech looking at it.
Called the tech today. He told me that the circuit board was bad and needed to be replaced. He was able to jump start the fridge and it seemed to work fine. Let’s just hope replacing the board solves the problem and doesn’t bring up an issue after 90 days when the warrant on the board goes away. The fridge is about 7 years old. Tech also said GE tends to have everything running of the board, so when it fails it renders the fridge useless.
