fridge not cooling

fridge not very cool even when temp set low, freezer normal, air coming from diffuser is very low, but, shut fridge off, turn back on, lots of cold air for 5 seconds then it slows down even with door closed, thermistor maybe?

Remove freezer back panel and check for heavy frost on the coils or in the air returns.

only very slight frost on coils, air return, thanks

If you have a motor controlled damper door, jam a wad of duck tape in the opening to keep the door half way open. Measure the freezer and fridg temperatures after a period of time, should be around zero for freezer, 41 for fridg. If ok, replace the fresh food thermistor. It might be in the damper door harness.

Ok, will try tomorrow when home, like I said previously, when fridge shutoff then turned back on blows like a mother for about 5 sec then slows to almost nil, will try to find fresh food thermistor didn’t see anything like it when cover off will take another look and let you know tomorrow, thanks for everything

turned fridge off, when pushed button and turned back on diffuser snaps open then slowly closed, tried to put popsicle stick to hold open and crushed it. so took it right out, fridge icey cold this afternoon, so I assume thermistor not telling it to open up, am I correct? or could be temp control board?

If freezer temperature near zero, you most probably have a bad fridg thermistor in the fresh food section, a thin, white, plastic item.

New fresh food thermistor installed, turned fridge on, diffuser snaps open, then slowly closed up completely again, not allowing any air through, as before, what to check next? thanks

Measure the stabilized freezer temperature and post.

freezer set at 2 degrees, thermometer placed inside for 20 min showing 6 and still dropping

Good, so you have no refrigeration problems. I would replace the control board, only thing left that would cause this problem.

OK thanks, but I see 3 different control boards listed in your parts when I put in KSRA251LSS13, 8201658,8201664 or 8201657? Which to order, don’t want to be sent the wrong one.

Get your serial # and call this parts site, may have a production change requiring the serial # to straighten it out.

Ok, finally got the control board and installed, but still does the same thing, shut fridge off, then turn back on, diffuser snaps open, then slowly closes back up, allows no air through from freezer. I’m at a loss.

Rather rare, but it might be a bad damper door assembly.

As I said, diffuser snaps wide open, working well when fridge first turned on, then slowly closes up in about 5 seconds and stays closed, is there someway of testing it because it does appear to be functioning, unfortunately already $230 in the hole replacing the thermistor and control board, or is this the only thing left that it could be, and yes I appreciate your effort trying to diagnose this thing over the internet which is tough to do.

This is an on/off control system in this fridg, anything else would require sensors on the damper motor. Suspect either a voltage leakage path to the damper motor or just a bad motor electrically, or mechanically. Might want to remove it and check.

I have the exact same issue with my Kitchenaid fridge KSRA25KKSS right now. Did the OP (Mazada) figure out the issue and end up replacing the damper?
