Hello,
Last week I noticed that my oven would not fire. I was taken by surprise as I’ve not had any problems with it. I tapped on the control panel, tried locking and unlocking the door, swore at it, and for some odd reason it began to work once again. This only lasted until last night. It quit again, and no banging or words can make it work. The broiler works fine, as does the burners on the top. I am stumped as to why or what caused it to stop.
Any ideas or steps to isolate the problem would be greatly appreciated…
Remove the oven floor and the flame spreader. Check if the igniter glows while the control calls for Bake. If it does then, most likely, the igniter is too weak to open the gas valve and has to be replaced.
If it does not glow, check for 120 VAC to the igniter while the control calls for Bake and post the results.
Hey Gene,
It measures 119v at the connector in the oven. The wires are frayed and exposed but not shorting the element. Thank you for assisting me with this. Does this mean the igniter has failed?
Thanks, Scott
Hey Gene,
First of all - THANK YOU!!! I got the part in today (shock because I ordered it yesterday from APP standard shipping) and was able to replace it with no problem. Was rather interesting that after I pulled the rear panel I discovered the connector was under the unit and not behind the panel. Also, the part that arrived did not have a full shield over the element/igniter yet I assumed it would be fine underneath all the metal and such. Should I be concerned that the igniter was not completely covered by a shield? Anyway the oven works like a champ and I have you to thank. If you have a PayPal account let me know and I will donate a few dollars your way for your kind assistance! This is probably the 3rd appliance you have assisted me with. Is Frigidaire a good brand as they all have started to develop a problem after they turned six years old?
Scott
I have a gas frigidaire that takes forever to warm up. When I see the glow in the bottom of the oven yet it gererates little to no heat. Sometimes when I open the door I hear the gas ignight. From reading your answer to an earlier post it sounds like the ignighter as the broiler does work.
Please confirm your thoughts as well as the part niumber for the top control panel which currently has no visable numbers in the LCD which progressivly got dimmer each time I cleaned the oven. I am guessing it generated to much heat in that area or maybe smoke and grim buildup from cleaning process… thoughts?
