Garage Freezer - dead after burnt electical

My upright garage freezer died 3 days after giving off a terrible burnt electric smell. Nothing obvious from visual inspection. Ideas??

Dead = no cooling; fan runs fine.

According to the manual, the defrost cycle is initiated automatically for 30 minutes every 12 hours of compressor running. it says the defrost thermostat closes at 10 degrees and opens at 50.

Thanks!!

Here are your parts

What do you mean by dead?
Totally dead no fan etc. OR partially dead fan runs but no cooling.

First I would check that you have power at the plug.
Next I would manually advance the defrost timer to see if anything will come on.

Below are a couple good links with basic fridge repair info

If the fan is running you are not in a defrost.

If the compressor is not running I would check it’s start relay, see the links I posted earlier for the how to. If it rattles it is shot.

BINGO - great call!!

I got a replacement from a local appliance store for $30. Things are cooling down again!!

Thanks!!
