Gas range is overheating

My GE XL44 Gas range just started (in the last week) overheating to the point that everything burns if cooked at the recipe temperature and length of time. I have started cooking everything 50 degrees cooler than recommended, but the cook time is still a fourth the time it should be. I also made the recommended (according to the manual) thermostat adjustment. However, that "solution" does not address the cause.

Is this a temperature sensor problem?

I appreciate any suggestions to repair the problem.

Thanks,

drivers

If you made the adjustments, and they did not make a difference, it is most likely you clock control board (ERC). You could ohm out the sensor, and see what it is. It should ohm out from 1070-1100 ohms. Tom http://www.applianceeducator.com/parts.htm

Thanks Tom for the suggestion. I installed a new EOC and tried out the oven today. It still overheats. I checked the oven temperature control with a thermometer, and the actual oven temperature is approximately 130 degrees F hotter than the oven setting.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Thanks for any advice,

Dave

At this point the sensor is your last option. Tom http://www.applianceeducator.com

By sensor, is that the same as the oven thermostat assembly?

Thanks,

Dave

In your case the thermostat. The part # is WB20K08. That will definetly do it. Tom http://www.applianceeducator.com
