Gas range taking a long time to heat up

My Magic Chef/Maytag gas range has been taking a very long time to heat up recently. Here’s what I’ve found:

[LIST=1]
*]The oven does eventually get hot, but extremely slowly.
*]The igniter for the oven gas element (at the bottom of the oven) comes on more or less immediately and glows orange.
*]It takes a long time before gas starts coming out (7 minutes). All this time, the igniter is glowing.
*]When the gas eventually does come out, the flame looks pretty small. I’m not sure how big the gas flame coming out of the oven element should look, but it’s much, much smaller than the one that comes from the broiler element. I posted a photo below.
*]Everything else does appear to work fine - tops, broiler.

Any ideas what’s wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Hi.

Most likely the bake ignitor is weak and needs to be replaced.

The ignitor 12400035

Here are the breakdown diagrams and http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=45858

Thank you. Post the results.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your reply. Why would you say that the ignitor is weak? It does glow orange, and it does light the gas. Although it took ~7 minutes to light when I first timed it (yesterday), and 9:45 to light the second time I timed it (today).

If it the igniter was weak, would that be visible to the ********** eye? e.g. Would it glow less brightly?

Apologies if I sound like I’m second-guessing you; I just want to make sure that we’re dealing with the right problem, which is that the oven takes a very long time to get to the correct temperature. The 7-10 minute ignition times I’m seeing wouldn’t necessarily account for the very slow warm-up time I’m seeing on their own.

Also, does the size of the bake flame in the photograph look correct to you?

Thanks,

Antun

Just to give you a point of reference, my oven took precisely 1 hour to warm up to 425 degrees F today.

Hi.

The good ignitor is drawing 3.25amp. If it’s less then 3.2amp it should be replaced.
You can check the current draw with amp meter.
The burner should be ignited in about 1 min.

Thank you. Post the results.
