GE Dishwasher with flashing normal button

I hope that someone can help…

I have a GE dishwasher model number GSD5120D03BB whose "normal wash" button started flashing and beeping mid-cycle. From what I have been able to research, it appears as though it could be one of two things: The controller assembly or the sequence switch (there is no membrane key pad to get stuck…it is part of the controller assembly).

I can purchase and install either, but before I purchase a non returnable item to do so, I am looking for the most likely item to try first. Does anybody have an idea which is the most likely to be the problem?

Thanks.

That was a good guess Gene. I thought so too, after finding the cleverly hidden troubleshooting instructions that I asked for from GE but was denied. I don’t get it…its MY dishwasher…

Anyway, the real problem was even more frustrating than that. Some time ago, GE sent out notification that this model (amongst others) had a fire potential due to the insulation on the wires in the wire harness being eaten away by leaking jet dry fluid within the unit. I sent for and received the new harness and replaced it. Everything was fine until the normal light started blinking and beeping. As it turns out, the new female "white" plug that connects the sequence switch to the control assembly was bad. The sockets were oversized and not making contact on the motor drive power leads. No power, no turn, no contact, no dice. I dissembled the plug, squeezed the spade sockets a little bit and put it back together. Viola! It works again.

Always check your connections first…and go from there  .

Thanks for the help!

Good job! I’m glad you were able to fix it.

Gene.
