Hi I’m new here and am quite an amateur at repairs.
My daughter’s old GE dishwasher (which she says still cleans dishes very excellently) recently stopped working. As I recall, she said the problem was that the normal light would beep and flash and the machine would not start. Turning off the power to reset it didn’t help. Researching this as best I could it seemed to me to be a problem either with the sequencer switch or the control assembly, more likely the former. I ordered a new sequencer switch from you a few days ago [AP2039701 - (WD21X10018)]. My daughter’s dishwasher model # was in the list of models that this part was approved for on your web page. The part came in one day! [Excellent service and at a good price, too!] Installing it seemed easy. After installation the machine started right up when she pushed the start button, and I was amazed that I was able to fix the machine so easily. She pushed the start/stop button a minute or so later to stop the dishwasher and open the door to look inside. I believe what happened next was that she tried to restart the machine but nothing happened when she pushed start. She pushed it a second time and the machine started up (and made me happy, briefly). The machine seemed to just go on after that for a very long time without reaching the end and stopping. Pushing stop did stop it though, but since then we have a big problem. There is a lot of water in the bottom of the machine. You need to push start twice to start the machine now (nothing happens when you push it once, it starts up nicely when you re-push that button though). The machine then runs for a short time but then stops, and the normal light flashes and beeps. Opening the door reveals a bunch of water in the bottom of the machine which did not get pumped out. After turning off the power for a while and starting the machine again, the same thing happens, and eventually you get the same blinking, beeping normal light and water left in the bottom of the machine.
What did I do wrong? Do I really need a new control assembly now? Could the sequencer possibly not be the correct part for this model? Did I do something wrong in replacing the sequencer switch? Do you need to do something specific with the little plastic arm that sits under the sequencer switch or with the soap dispenser lever on the door liner that it pushes? HELP!!
[Sorry for this wordy posting.]
