hi all,
i had the problem with my fridge not chilling enough on both fridge and freezer.
so, i changed the following:
defrost thermostat
defrost heater
temps were ok for a week and then on the back panel ice started forming again. so went and bought a main control board and changed that.
temps were ok for 2 weeks this time and now the freezer is at 7 and fridge is at 38 (set at 37). what other things can i change? does this look like a freon leak problem/compressor problem? how do i identify that?
thanks
Remove the motherboard cover in the back and locate the 3 pin, gray power connector. Unplug it and put a wire jumper between the two mating pins labeld line a def. , then plug frid in. If you now get defrost action, you have a bad motherboard, if not, you missed something in the freezer wiring.
hi,
this motherboard is brand new (2 weeks old) - what are the chances that it could go bad? what are the other things i could change inside? the evaporator fan motor with the thermistor was changed last year - could that have gone bad again (the fridge side should get warm if that went bad, isn’t)?
today the temps are slowly rising - 12 (freezer) and 41 (fridge). so, i am guessing it is going towards my old problem of 20 and 50 which then indicates that this is not the defrost heater, defrost thermostat or the main board problems? am i correct in assuming this? i am starting to slowly see the ice/frost buildup in the back panel vents again - that is bad news.
i wanted to make sure that this is close to a compressor/freon issue before buying another fridge - don’t want to miss a few obvious troubleshooting.
thanks.
i opened the inside panel in the freezer section and found out that the coils are compeltely covered in frost and there is no water in the drain pan (completely dr). looks like the defrost is not working. is there a defrost timer in this fridge or is it controlled by the motherboard? how do i test if the defrost will turn on?
Do the test I mentioned and post the results.
Richappy,
So, I am basically eliminating the motherboard and giving power directly to the fridge after jumping those pins in the gray connector, is that correct? After jumping those pins in the gray connector, how do I check that defrost comes on - the compressor will not hum?
Thanks.
The heater in the freezer will come on when you plug back in the frdg., if so, you have a bad motherboard, assuming the freezer was cold when you did this.
hi Richappy,
i jumped the defr and line and defrost heater didn’t come on after pluggin in. so, i guess motherboard is ok. what else can i check in the freezer wiring?
You have a bad wire or loose connector someplace, probably need a meter to fix.
I have a meter but don’t know where to start or look. all the wires look like they are connected. are there any obvious ones that can get frozen and snap off or something?
Without me being there, it is hard to help, just check things, I fixed one before and it took more than an hour to find a bad splice.
