Hi,
I have been having a problem with my GE gas oven. It started with the oven not igniting. I would turn the oven to temp and press bake and come back later to the oven either a) not on with a distinct smell of gas , b) the oven on and heating up regularly, or c) the oven on and heating up really really slowly.
So I took off the bottom panel so I could see the gas tube (with orifices) and ignitor. What I saw is the ignitor glows bright, and when the oven heats up really slow, there is just a tiny blue flame. So I figured that the gas valve was sticking and not allowing the proper flow of gas to the gas tube. I decided to lightly tap on the back of the tube by the ignitor with a hammer to see if i could "un-stick" the valve. Sure enough, a couple taps and wham! the burner starts flaming like it should and heats up to temp. Then when you let something bake for a while and it cools down, it isn’t able to fire back up to maintain temperature (unless I get back in and tap it).
Also, the broiler and range would work fine this whole time. But now, nothing works (no gas). Both glow ignitors come on fine, the range burners spark when you click to ignite but no flames. Gas is on to the appliance, so that isn’t the problem. I can only suspect that some sort of valve on the appliance is stuck closed. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Justin
