I had water leaking down the walls inside the freezer from the evaporator above. Repair guy replaced the defrost controller. Freezer and refrigerator cooled fine, but the evaporator drain pan still froze up and water continued to come down the sides and drip into the ice maker bin. Repair guy came back and said I need the GE icing kit WR49X10021. Later, when I looked into the compressor compartment up above, I saw that the compressor drain was full of water, the bottom of the compressor was rusted and flaking, and there was all kinds of debris in the water. Does this mean the compressor should also be replaced? Could the debris in the water be clogging the drain hose going to the evaporator and causing the overflow into the freezer compartment? Or should I just do the icing kit and wait for the compressor to stop working before replacing it? Thanks for any good advice.
