GE side by side very poor cooling

This Fridge I was told working great, they turned off Wed and we picked it up on Sunday… Freezer will not drop lower than 40 Degrees / the fresh fridge side not much better than the room temp… You can hear it running but never makes it any lower temp… We moved it to new location by trailor only maximum 5 miles. It was stored( off ) in a garage only 4.5 days… We gave away the exact same fridge, only differance was the color. and it was only off for 1-2hrs max …
delivered it 20 miles away and they have no problems what so ever ( it only needed the ice bucket to dispence)
We were told to wait at least 24 hours, its been well over 48 since it was pluged in… and still nothing lower than 40 freez and .
Any Ideas how it could be working as told and gone to … in a few days being off…

No ice, clean, fans are running… Help

The fans are running but can you tell if the compressor seems to be running? Check that out and recheck that model number (what you gave seems more like the serial number) and we will try to help. http://www.appliance-repair-it.com/Refrigerator-repair.html

You are right the compressor was not coming on, I took wire connections loose, and re hooked at the compressor and as of 5 minutes ago compressor is on, It seems to have something to do with the wire connections under the little black cover attached to compressor . Do I need to replace the part there, if so what would the part be called
The only other number we could find is rs275 … Thanks for the help, I was about to trash the thing… Steve

,

I was loooking at the book that came with fridge , would it be over load relay ? I will check and see how it does through the next few hours, I put cover back on and made compressor stop again, took it off pushed around on the connections and again it seems to be working fine,( seems loose though) at least for now, Will keep you updated, Thanks for the help

Where are you getting the model from I will need it because I need to know if it is a model with the main board or mechanical controls. There should be a tag somewhere in or under the fresh food section. The number you are looking for should start with something like GSS2, TFX2, PSS2 something along those lines.

Looks like you are on the right track with the overload and relay. Check to see if the relay smells burnt also shake if it rattles needs to be replaced. Also before replacing the overload and relay make sure you clean the condenser coils very well. Good luck

It’s Wed am here, it has been aprox, it has been aprox 12 hrs and it still seems to stick around 40 degrees in freezer section, fresh fridge side so warm never bothered to check the temp
Have looked every posable place for the model number, will get number off other fridge and get back, only difference is this has a culigan water filter, and slide temp controls in top back of Fresh fridge side…
The compressor seems a little hotter this am, but seems to be running…
Thanks for all the help, still hanging in there…

We can do without the model number. Is the compressor running continuously or is it cutting off before it gets cold? Look on the back of the refrigerator to see if it has a main board or not. The board (if it is there) should be behind a panel about a foot to two feet from the bottom.

If the compressor is running the whole time not short cycling you may have a refrigeration problem. To check this, remove the cover off the evaporator inside the freezer. Once done you should see the coils and on the coils there should be a thin layer (not thick ice) of frost along the entire coils. Post what you find.

We had an apprentice repair guy suggest since it was moved, to turn off and let sit a couple days and retry, letting any oil drain back down were it belongs… he claims to have had the same problem and this worked for him… So that’s what we are trying at this point, seems simple enough, we will know Friday…

Turning off a few days was no help,
Checked coils behind freezer panel and at the bottom row was thick frost/ice, rest of coils no frost / no ice…

http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/refrigerator-freezer-repair/42529-ge-freezer-icing-problem.html Go to this thread and click on the link that 96r put up. Tell me if that looks like what you are seeing.

TRhat’s exacyly what I see, with ice at the verry bottom of coils and tube, upper part seems warm and no ice…
Thanks

Just checked and the compressor was off, had to mess/move the wire and part at compressor to come back on…
Still looks like it is gonna ice at bottom row and warm at top…
New fridge time ???
Thanks for the help, Steve

I would say that only it sounds like the compressor is short cycling which may be caused by a loose connection at the compressor. Take the cover off the side of the compressor and check for loose connections.

Believe it or not we finally found the model# TFX25zpbc bb ,
it still ices on bottom of coils, when it stops? I mess with wires under cover gets it going, does this part unplug or ? I guess then the shake test or? Just replace parts and say a prayer ? The overload on top of the relay (looked at diagram) the top of it almost feel off… pushed back down and on again. Still with the ice at bottom of freezer, 1st row… nothing above… The cover I left off the relay and overload… and panel off back of freezer compartment to watch the frost to ice…
Thanks Again, Hope you have a great weekend, Steve

Buy them both because usually if the relay were bad it wouldn’t work at all but I could be the problem and the overloads usually don’t give much trouble.

There is a possibility the compressor is overheating and if this doesn’t work I think that is the case. You already checked to see if the coils under the refrigerator were clean and the fan was running right?

If this doesn’t work you could look into other things that may cut the compressor off but the reason I think the problem is here is because you have messed with the wires two times now to make the compressor start running.

To answer you last question the overload must go on first then the relay.

Oh that model doesn’t have a main board so now I know what we are dealing with.

Got the overload in yesterday, the relay was back ordered, but it starts fine , actually I have not been around to even know if the compresor has shut off at all, seems to be no ice forming on back , but still after 24 hres the freezer is at around 40 degrees, the fridgside never checked, I figure once the freezer issue is solvedfriidge will be ok… No ice on coils, still at 40 Degrees, have not heard it cut off, ??? Also the compressor seems hot…

I re read your last reply about posable compressor over heating , I cut it off for a bit , it seems to run non stop and still never past 40 deg… I am letting it cool down and go at it again… Should the compressor be hot to the touch??? I turned the darn thing off at the control in the fridge…I guess the bright side at least no more wire jiggling at the overload (the old actualy feel apart almost think someone else has messed around with this fridge… any way
Thanks Again,

Almost forgot yes , cleaned coils , and fans are running, just hot compressor now and the 40 deg , fans and compressor never seems to stop running, unless I cut it off on temp control in fridge…

Figured I would give the latest, Last night I ut it off with temp control switch to see if compressor cooling down would make a difference… turned back on around 11;00 pm it started back up… Around 3 am I noticed it had cut it"s self off with a few drops of water back by the drain… temp at 38 degrees…
Checked around 5 am ,( it had come back on sometime by it self )around 40 degrees…
Told wife she could use the freezer for the fridge and put cook books for fresh foods in the other side… I’m sure you have an idea how that went over…
I will check later in the day, Thanks again, Steve
