GE: Turntable turns, light on when door opens

I have this mircrowave GE SpaceMaker JVM1631WJ03 for 2.5 years. Recently when I open the door, it may turns on the light, turns the turntable, and I hear the sound like the microwave runs when the door is close. I have to close the door and select Clear/Off to turn it off.

Which part do I have to replace ?

Thanks for your advice.

Hi Nykhoa,

Most likely the problem is a bad door switch (the lower one) which is stuck closed.

 • The part number for the switch is AP2024367

Hi Nykhoa,

If you know major safety rules how to work with electrical appliances and you have a simple ohmmeter - you can do it. The diagram should be behind the top grille on the left side or inside the control panel.

Gene, thanks again for your help. I have one more question so that I can order all the parts at one time, if I need more than one.

Besides the problem that I described, now when I close the door, it is difficult to make it start. With the door closed, I add minutes and press Start. The light turn on but the turntable does not run and I do not hear the normal sound when it runs properly. I have to open and close many times to make it start. Is this also caused by the bad switch or something else ?

Thanks for your advice,

Nykhoa.

Nykhoa,

As I said previously, the first failure suspect is the door interlock switch. You have to check it before taking any action.

Does it fill with water correctly?

it will not fill up with water, nothing. the only thing it will do is operate on the spin cycle and that is it. so no water, just put dial on spin and thats all it will do

ref runs all the time . temp setting on #1 . freezing in ref section.freezer very cold. marvin

Moist likely the problem is a bad secondary interlock switch. The model number you posted does not come up and I’m not able to give you more accurate advice.

Gene.

Can a competent handy man repair an interlock switch if I order it from GE or had I best get an appliance repair guy to come out? What’s my most cost effective way to get this repaired or, considering my microwave is 10 years old, should:) I get a new one?

Sorry, I was giving you the serial #. The model # is JE1660WA 003. Does this help?

Thank you! Claudia:)

With the correct model number it’s much easier.

Remove the top grill and open the control panel. The switches are on the left side, mounted on the frame (#26 on the diagram). Most likely the problem is a bad bottom switch. You can use the OEM switch or the after market switch I posted earlier.

I have a GE Profile JTP95BA1. A couple months ago, it started having a failure symptom. Whenever I opened the door, the turn table motor was not off, but continuous rotated. This week, whenever I press “start”, it will have NO heat at all if the tray not rotated, but OK if the tray rotated. Please help me to pinpoint the failed component to fix it. Thanks,

JTran

JTran,

Most likely the problem is a bad microwave control board. I would also check the door switches.

Hi Gene,

Thank you for your reply. I will check on the door sensing switch as your advices.

Hi Gene,

Once again thank you for your advices. I checked the relays on the control board. They are ok. I checked the switches of the interlock and found out the main switch broken. Actually all switches are the same. They just cut the un-used connector fordifferent configuration of normal-open(N.O.) or normal-closed(N.C.)

Regards,
JTran

They are not exactly the same even if it looks like. Two interlock switches are NO and the monitor switch is NC.

Having the same problem with a GE jvm1640wb002. What part do I replace and any tips on how to do it? Also, I can live with this since I’m in the planning stages of redoing the kitchen, if this poses no health risk, i.e. it’s just running the fan and TT, and not emitting MV, is this true?

You can not be sure about it. It’s better to keep the microwave unplugged until it’s fixed.

Most likely the problem is a bad door switch (#29 on the diagram). You have to remove the upper grill and open the control panel to access them.

Thxs Gene. I ordered the switch and did the old tin foil test to verify if the MV was emitting microwaves while this was happening and it appears that it is not.
