We have been having an issue with our washer for a month now. It will fill, agitate, rinse, but when it gets to the spin cycle, it will not spin. We have on occassion been able to get it to spin by removing all of the clothes inside, but that is hit or miss.
We used this post from a few years back to try to diagnose the problem. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/washer-repair/541124-ge-washer-wont-spin-dry-clothes.html
As instructed in that post, we unplugged the pump and tried the spin cycle. No noise except the timer.
Should our first step be to replace the timer? We stopped into a parts store a few minutes ago who insisted it is the lid switch. I don’t want to permanently disconnect the lid switch if at all possible. Any way to test it without doing that?
My husband and I thank you in advance for any assistance! I’d really like to do laundry soon.
Edited to add: When the washer gets to the spin cycle, it will stay there until we manually shut it off. It is not completing the cycle on its own.
