this is a 2007 model. fills with water, timer goes through its cycles and then it drains. tub never moves or makes any noise. i have reset it several times as per instructions i saw here and it doesn’t work for me. this problem appeared from one wash to the next with no warning.
i thought it might be the lid switch so i took it apart and put the wires together with a wire nut. no change so on a whim i tried them apart. still no change.
i absolutely cannot afford a new washer so i hope someone will help me. i do not know how to use a meter but i am pretty mechanically inclined.
Unfortunately there are a large number of possibilities for your washer. Let’s try to narrow the causes.
If you insert a putty knife between the top and front of the washer at each end you will release clips that will allow you to take off the front of the washer.
You should now operate the washer with the front off. During the agitate and spin cycles determine if the motor is turning, and if so, is the belt and large pulley on the transmission shaft turning.
If they are all turning, the problem is going to be in your transmission, which is a major repair. If the motor is turning, but nothing else, the clutch may be the problem, and if the motor is not turning the wiring or the timer may be the issue.
thanks for your response! okay i have a new timer in and the problem persist. i removed the front as you said and observed the following. the motor does not turn. it doesn’t not get warm. i don’t see any movement or hear anything that indicates the motor is trying to operate. everything does move freely by hand.
as i stated before the machine fills and goes through it’s cycles and then drains. no movement otherwise.

We know the timer is not the issue if you have replaced it. We know the machine is getting power and power is going to the water pump since it drains. And we know the motor is not working.
It would seem that either power is not getting to the motor because of a problem with the wiring, or the motor is bad. Unfortunately GE does not let out much technical information, but see if there is a tech sheet in the console which will help you look at and test the wiring to the motor. If nothing else, jiggle the wiring to the motor while the machine is in agitate mode to see if it will start. (Be very careful doing this)
If the wiring is ok your likely problem is with the motor. I know you said you did not have funds for a new machine, so I think you need to decide if you want to take the risk of investing in a new motor or using the funds to purchase a good used model.
