GE Washer won't Agitate or Spin

Good morning,

I have an 11+ year old washer that I am making a last ditch effort to save. I have repaired the matching dryer many times.

Noticed that a load of clothes had not spun and were sitting soaking wet in the washer. I have done the following:

Removed the magnet from the lid so I was able to place it over the door switch and observe what’s happening in the washer with the lid open.

Checked the clear tubing along the left side of the drum…it was clear. When I blew into the tube I could hear the clicking noise that I am apparently supposed to hear.

Checked all wires. Nothing loose.

Removed control panel on top of the washer (behind the knobs). No loose wiring there either.

Belt is intact and looks good.

Pump seems to be running fine.

I cannot find any LED lights on the motor. Perhaps this feature came after my old model? (purchased 2005)

Wiring to the door switch is intact; don’t see any problems there.

Pulled out the agitator from the drum, unscrewed the bolt holding on the coupling, the coupling appeared fine upon inspection.

So like I stated above, when I start a cycle, the drum fills up normally. When it’s time to agitate (observed with the lid up, magnet on the door switch to enable agitation/spinning to work), no agitation happens. I hear a slight humming sound. Then when it’s time to drain, the water drains out, and when it’s time to spin, no spinning happens (again, the same slight humming sound).

I don’t observe the belt rotating at all. Does the belt control the motor or does the motor control the belt?

If I need a new motor, I’ll definitely just go for a new washer. But if it’s something simple I’m missing, I’m willing to try.

Thanks for any help you can provide!
