GE WHRE5550O2WW wont spin or agitate.

Hey experts,

As stated above I have a GE washer that wont spin or agitate. I have done the diagnostic routine shown on the troubleshooting paper thats just behind the control panel.

The diagnostic did not show any error codes in positions 2,3,4. Hot and cold water valves operated correctly. Pump operated correctly.

Washer did not agitate in positions 7 or 8. Did not spin in position 10.

I opened the washer and looked at the diagnostic LED on the motor control board. It flashes 1 sec on/off ( notmal standby according to diagnostic paper) when the unit has power. It also contines to flash 1 sec on/off when i set the washer to agitate or spin via the diagnostic mode mentioned above. motor / belt / basket spin freely.

based on this i susect its the control board itself not sending the correct signal to the motor.

experts have any opinions ? what is the part number i should by buying? about how much am i looking at?

Possible the problem is a bad mode shifter. Remove the C7 connector from the motor and check the resistance between the red and yellow wires. The normal reading suppose to be about 98 Ohms. If the reading is incorrect, replace the mode shifter.

Gene.

65.6 OHMs from red to white on mode selector.

if that was the issue wouldnt i get an error code on the control board test or the motor flash codes?

wouldnt the motor run but just be stuck in agitate or spin?

Sounds like the problem is a bad lid switch. You can bypass it for the test only.

Sigh, this is getting frustrating.

Ordered the control board AND the mode selector shaft and received them today.

FYI, new mode selector shaft reported 65.5 ohms resistance out of the box. So not surprisingly when I hooked that up the issue was not resolved.

Lid switch seems ok as well. 0 ohms with lid down, open circuit with lid open. Also validated that the orange wire on the motor control board that comes from the lid switch reports 120V when the lid is closed, and 0 with it open.

also replaced the control board, that did not resolve the issue either.

Throughout this all, the motor diagnostic LED flashes code for "normal standby"

Has to be the motor assembly now right? have replaced / tested everything else?

How did you do it?

Did you check it between the orange wire and chassis or between the orange wire and white/red wire which goes to the C2 - pin3?

Try to reset the inverter by doing the following:

Disconnect the power for 2-3 minutes. Open and close the lid 8-10 times in any 12 second period within the first 30 seconds of power-up.

Gene.

Checked between the orange and the Green/Yellow stripe, which is ground according to the wiring diagram.

Same result when testing it to the chassis or the white/rest stripe.

Tried Lid reset trick, no luck.

Sounds like the only part left is the motor itself.

The AP4536553

you posted is the correct part number.

P.S. If the new motor will fix it and you bought the control board from APP, you can return it.
