GE Wont advance cycles... Have to manually turn knob to advance cycles at 2 points

I have a GE wdsr2080g2ww that for the past year has been getting stuck at 2 points during a wash cycle. Usually gets stuck while spinning and then after the rinse cycle, all it takes is 1 click of the knob and then it continues on its way.

Any ideas on this? I have a feeling it has to do with the timer itself, however I don’t want to spend money on a part when it isn’t definate thats what it is. Any way to test the timer? Im pretty mechanically inclined and have basic electrical testing tools, so if you could help point me in the direction of what to check, that would be great.

Thanks
Nick

GE gives out very little technical data, so you need to check inside the control console to see if there are any tech notes that will work with your problem.

It seems like a mechanical problem with the timer, and if so there is little to test for so you will have to take a chance on replacing it. Here is the part, which fortunately is not expensive as timers go.
