Well we changed the GFI Wall breaker . Because to my understanding that was our problem. guess What? Wrong! Went to open the freezer to see if The defrost was working after taken the GFI Wall breaker out. And sparks Were flying!!! The Main breaker didn’t kick! so now I might have just fried the freezer… Isn’t there anyone that can tell me what the problem could be?
We are taking the hair dryer to defrost and see if we can get the refrigerator back on to working, and going to place the GFI back in, and keep doing as I have with defrosting the freezer with the hair dryer. If anyone has a clue to what is wrong with the refrigerator, Please give me heads up! Thank you.
Where were the sparks?
The way I understand your post the unit was that the unit was working OK after you connected it to a standard receptacle. You then forced a defrost cycle and got sparks.
Is the above correct?
No, we didn’t force a defrost. We changed the GFI because was tripping when going into defrost.
after replaced , waited for defrost mode. As soon as it kicked to defrost I just so happened to open the doors and seen the sparks and flame started. Had to shut off at main breaker. The Refrigerator would trip the GFI when going into the defrost mode. would not reset till we removed out of defrost mode.
It looks like the heater is the problem. We checked it looked like it was fine.
Although the sparks state other wise. Looks like the tie attached to heater has melted from the sparks/flame. All 3 post I have made in here is about the same problem. For record the refrigerator has started back up , seems to be working . unhooked the heater wires, when forced into defrost (after placing GFI back) didn’t trip the breaker. So again I’m thinking The heater. What is your opinion ? Thank you .

It sounds like the heater is the problem.
I would replace both the heater and the defrost thermostat just to be safe.
