Help-My GE washer agitator is not working!!

My washer fills, spins, drains, but will not agitate. It will not agitator on any cycle. I have read a few other threads that say pull agitator off…but then what? What do you do next? We still can’t see anything. There is a large metal piece with a screw on top. And my model is the type that only works when the lid is closed, some type of electronic device. So how will we determine which part is working and what is not?

I am no handyman by any means, but my husband is pretty handy. Trying to talk him into fixing this instead of geting new, if thats possibl and not too costly.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Also I can hear it working, it just is not moving the agitator.

If you pull off the agitator, and be careful it can come suddenly loose and hit you in the face, you will find a coupling, this piece here

Try replacing it and see if that fixes things.

It worked!! I was able to get the agitator off myself, called the local part store to see if they had part, and then sent my husband over to pick it up. He came home and took off old part, replaced with new part and it worked~~ And it was only $6.00!!

Thnak you!!

Well I am sure that made your day, and the fact that you got it fixed makes our day.

Nice going, good luck with the washer going forward!
