Ge Washer

My Ge washer was filling up with water and it was really trying to agitate, moving very slowly. I put the washer in the spin cycle to remove the water and the washer had no problem going through the draining and spin cycle. I removed the agitator and replaced the agitator coupler because you could clearly see that the old one had the teeth all chewed up so it was not gripping properly to the transmission post. I put the new coupler on and put the agitator back in place. Now the washer will not agitate or go through the spin cycle. The timer is working properly because you can hear it clicking when it goes through cycle. The water will drain out but will not spin like it did before I replaced the coupler. What is my next thing to look at. I have looked at the belt on the pulley and that seems to be in good condition. What should I look at now?

No noise at all from the drive motor when in agitate or spin mode? Check the lid switch. Neutral to motor is through the lid switch. Timer motor and drain pump power is not through the lid switch.

Hi fairbanks56…
I unscrewed the magnet from the top lid and just placed on the connection so that I could have the lid open when viewing the agitator. I haven’t screwed it back on the lid as yet, does that really make a difference because it was spinning with the lid up before I changed the agitator coupling. If I look at the lid switch what am I suppose to be looking for?

Hi fairbanks56
You were absolutely correct. I went ahead and screwed the magnet back onto the lid and now the washer is working properly again. I have agitation , draining and spinning. I must of had the magnet cockeyed on the lid switch so it did not have a proper alignment. All is well now. Thank you for giving me the knowledge to screw the magnet back on the lid…never thought it would of made that much of a difference since it was spinning for me yesterday when I removed it.
