high spin intermittent

My washer will drain and go into high spin most of the time on the first load.

On the second load and after, it will not go into high spin most of the time.
I have to turn off the washer for 10-15 minutes and then it will go into high spin after I rotate the timer to a rinse/spin setting and it works.

It’s like something is getting hot and it has to cool down, then I rotate the timer to a rinse/spin setting for it to drain and high spin.

You might have dragging brake shoes. Remove the pump and motor and turn the tranny coupler clockwise. If very hard to turn when the spin basket engages, you have something stuck in the tub or dragging brake shoes. If you continue to use it, you will burn out the motor.
