Hot Middle Panel on Refrigerator

Hello,

Hoping for some feedback. I have a Maytag Refrigerator and the frame/Middle panel between the freezer and refrigerator where you open the doors was hot to the touch a week ago.

I went ahead and thoroughly cleaned the condenser coils and all areas I could reach with condenser brushes and a shop vac with slim attachments. The coils were extremely dirty. I placed the insulation and cardboard back over the fridge properly as not to interfere with the condenser fan, and I also made sure that all sides of the refrigerator had enough space between it and the wall to allow for ventilation.

Also the refrigerator was off, of course, while I cleaned the condenser coils so it had enough time to reboot and startup if that was an issue.

Today I checked the middle panel, and while it is not hot anymore it is warm (92 degrees). I dont recall this ever being warm or hot in the past, can anyone advise if this is normal or if theres another cause? I.E. a component in the middle panel that may be malfunctioning? Thanks!

Since the condenser coils are clean, the condenser fan running correctly and the front and rear vents are clean I would say the it is normal.
It keeps condensation from forming on the frame.

I am assuming that the unit now cycles properly

Hi Denman,

Thank you so much for the feedback that makes sense. I’m assuming when you say it now "cycles correctly" you mean running less? I’ve noticed since I did maintenance that the refrigerator runs less often and when it isn’t running the middle panel is room temperature. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks again!

Yes that is correct.
