How to replace spin bearing???

Hey everyone…thanx for letting me in the forum! I have a Maytag SAV4655EWQ washer and it has had the "jet engine" sound while spinning for quite some time now. I’ve learned to deal with it but now i want to replace the spin bearing and i was wondering if anyone can give me step by step instructions on how to do it. I’m pretty handy with taking things apart and putting them back together. (10 yrs worth of auto mechanics helps.) I did manage to find a write up on how to replace the spin bearing on a different Maytag washer and i was wondering if it would be similar to my washer. This is the link to it. http://www.geocities.com/maytagrepairwasher/index.html Any help would be much appreciated!!!

From the write up i found and posted a link to it doesnt seem like it would be too hard. Just time consuming. So once i remove the agitator what should i be looking for? I already removed the fabric softener cup and the bolt underneath that but it seems like the agitator is stuck on there somehow. It has never been off since i bought it.

You’re going to have a hell of a time breaking that machine down as water has corroded everything and most everything related to the water seal and bearings is gonna come apart hard be prepared to break it inpieces taking it apart. The spin bearing has probably welded itself to the tranny shaft and it will more than likely need cut, and you will also more than likely need a gear puller to get the hub off. If you think it’s an easy job you might want to rethink it. Depending how long its been howling and leaking will determine how easy it comes apart.Unless you have experience doing a job like this you’re in for lots of surprizes the agitator pulls straight up after the bolt is removed.

Verify you got the right tub seal there are two different ones for your machine one for the series 10 and one for the series 14 and above. The first 2 numbers of the serial number designates what series the machine is the triple lip seal would be for series 10 W10116791 and the seal kit for series 14 would be W10116790

I hate to break the news to you but that machine isn’t worth repairing You can go to the trouble of putting the hub and seal kit spin bearing, belt etc and it will just happen again the plastic tub flexes to much and won’t hold a tub seal for more than a couple years, if you’re lucky, you’re better off pitchin it and going out and buying another one. If you want a good machine similar to that get a Speed Queen They have a metal tub and a 3 year parts labor warranty. The Atlantis is a different design and different seal.

SAV is "Searcy", not Atlantis. You’re right about the quality of the machine, though. BTW, Maybe I’m weird, but I actually enjoy working on them.

Hey thanx! I totally missed that link…That washer looks alot older than mine though…i take it they are the same inside? So i need that brake/bearing tool then? is there any other tools i will need to do this?

It’s older but should be the same,The belt and pully is different but the seal and procedure is the same You can make a seal puller /installer

Here is what it looks like you can probably make it with PVC and ready rod

also have you got it apart yet? you may need a whole outer tub you can also use the old bearing and seal to drive in the new one drive the old one out with a big ass socket or something be creative I made one out of a fabric softner dispenser and an whirlpool old belt drive centerpost bearing puller that PVC cap is the diameter of the tub where the seal gets installed

i need to change out the agitator gear. unable to pull the gear. need instructions on how to pull the agitator gear from the washer

dryer has excessive heating on all selections. it eventually stopped working. changed the thermal fuse and it started working again for about a week. it still has extreme heat on all settings. It again stopped working. Not sure what problem is.

Your problem is very likely a restricted venting system.

You need to take the dryer apart to get to the blower cover and take it off. Check to make sure the blower is operating correctly, and if so clean it out, and clean out the entire length of the vent from the inside of the dryer to the outside where the air exhausts.

That you do it.
