The machine works fine but during the spin cycle it is starting to get loud like a bearing going bad. The tub spins freely by hand and there are no other issues with it.

A noisy spin is caused by a bad bearing. It will only get worse. The best solution is to replace it.

You would think they would make the bearing easy to replace w/o having to purchase a new tub assy. but from the looks of it that is not the case. $500 for a new tub assy. in a 7 y/o machine that costs about $800 new is not cost effective so now i will run it until it breaks and buy a new one.
btw i will not buy a Maytag again. :mad:

Yes…this was Maytag’s demise. Most people agree with your decision. I have seen techniques listed on Youtube of replacing just the bearing.
I’m going to e-mail Maytag and tell then what i think about their washers and why i will never buy one of their products again.

That’ll do a lot of good, since Whirlpool Corp. has owned Maytag since 2006.
If you continue to run it, you will blow out the speed control board, then it will be worthless. For about $75 in bearings and seals, you can fix it yourself, there are procedures posted to do this, or you can sell it and let others fix it. This washer is a fine mechanical design, much better than Frigidaire. If you lived in my area, I would buy it.

$75 is more like it. I don’t see a "search" tab here like other forums have. Do you have a link for the procedures?

I searched the Appliance Database and found the info i needed. I’ll be calling Tony Tools in the morning.
