Ice Dispenser won't dispense ice

I have a Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator Model #GD5NVAXSY01 that has ice and water dispensed through the door. It has stopped dispensing ice. The ice maker is working fine and nothing is frozen that would keep the motor from running. There was nothing that happened that let me think there was a problem, it just stopped working. Sometims you could tap on the area between the water and ice pads and it would work momentarily.I had a service technician look at it and he sugested changing out the electronic control panel just under the motor. when you attempt to dispense ice the door opens nothing happens. I ordered a new electronic control panel (from APP) and replaced it yesterday with no improvement. I tapped on the same area again and it worked for a second and then stoped. Don’t know what to do fromhere?

I take for granted you replaced this board ?

Did you check the wire harness, for loose connections ? or loose collapsed pins in the connectors

[part]AP3853351[/part]

and what about the connectors and wires on the UIB(user interface board) board.

You most likely have a loose connection or a weak circuit there.

I have a Maytag and the "ear" broke and allowed the rod to slip down. This prevented the switch activation and it would not work for anything. I removed the electronic housing and could see all of this.
The plastic housing is all molded together and is set into the foam in the door and cannot be removed. Even if it could be, Maytag does not sell the housing. Their answer was to purchase a new door for 400+ dollars.
I fashioned a repair that is working fantastically and am considering putting together a repair kit with pictures and detailed instructions.

What’s the model and serial number ?

There’s probably a repair kit available, already.

I’m having the same problem with the same refrigerator (gd5nvaxsy01). Is there a good guide somewhere about how to access the wiring and control panel as indicated earlier in this thread?

Thanks for all of the great information!

Thank you Joe, I found out yesterday there is a "glued" repair available now from Maytag [whirlpool].

Mine is a more permanent solution but nevertheless I am dropping my plans to put together a kit on my own. This problem occurs because the ice dispenser arm is able to be pushed farther back than necessary to activate the ice-maker, placing undue pressure on the assembly. Poor design basically.

Thank you though!!

Myclark,

If your having the same problem, loose or broken ice paddle you need to order part number,

AP3872692

That kit will have everything you need to repair the ice chute door flapper assembly.( and it comes with instructions).

The previous post stated it was a Maytag refrigerator, depending on the model number and age, there is probably a repair kit,or individual parts available, for it, as well.

As for accessing the switch assembly,

Along the bottom of the dispenser panel, you’ll find two molded slots in the bottom edge,
With a flat blade screwdriver and a pad(so you don’t damage the door panel) pry or twist out on the bottom panel, once it’s released, push up on the panel, to unlatch the remaining panel tabs, be carefull if you have a digital display.

Depending on the age of your unit, you may have 2 or 3 screws, holding the interior switch bracket to the housing, some newer units have plastic tabs in the same location.

Once the bracket is loose, and you slide it out, you’ll follow the instructions that come with the repair kit.

*** of course you need to unplug the power cord or turn off power to the refrigerator, before you start ***

Good Luck,

Repairkit,

That’s a newer version model number,

You need the same kit as my previous post.

I’m sure your idea was a good one, and probably similar to this kit,

But it already exists,

Good Luck,
