Ice Maker Issues + Parts Question

I have a Maytag side by side refrigerator, model # MSD2758DRW. Recently, I replaced the water filter. At first the ice maker seemed to be working fine. However, after a few days, the freezer compartment shelves were covered with ice where water had spilled over and frozen. I checked the fill tube and apparently ice had formed in it and had a completely frozen up at the point of entry to the ice maker which caused the water to spill over. I thawed everything out and it worked again for a few days.

I tried lowering the water pressure and it didn’t appear to be leaking any water in the ice maker. However, a couple of days later, the supply tube had frozen up. I thought about replacing the water valve for it as a next step.

My other question has to do with the outer freezer door. I am going to replace the escutcheon and control switch for the water fountain. It is screwed into a bracket that has rusted. From the looks of the appliance pros website ,website, the replacement part appears to be molded?

What other parts and I am going to need to do this? Thanks for the replies.

Mack,

I agree with you on the fill valve(s) My best guess is you’ve got a seaping valve,

There are 2 valves in the rear of the unit, were it me, I would replace both.
(no safe way of knowing which valve is seaping).

But, that’s up to you.

You may want to "flush" the water supply line for a few minutes before you attach it to the new fill valve(s) as well.

As for the rusted dispenser housing and bracket,

Other than the mounting screws, solenoid and spring, everything in the fountain assembly, is a co polymer or plastic assembly, and should not rust ???

I wander if your water dispenser was also seaping, or water was splashing onto the assembly, when filling a glass ?

You may want to try cleaning off the rust with a rust remover product ?

Good Luck,

Hello,

Check the model and serial number there was an update to this fill tube, the new one is more open to let the water evaporate rather than freeze and build up.

On most other models the water valve or water filter can also cause this problem. I’ve seen the fill tube connection on the back let air in also and it froze the fill tube. I know this refrigerator well if you have any more question I can help you fix this unit.
