Icee Maker Auger Motor

My Dad’s Ice maker managed to freeze the ice in such a way to bind the auger and the auger motor broke the plastic housing. Got the ice maker working again and ordered the plastic housing that the auger motor mounts on…my question…how do I remove that metal "chuck" that drives the auger…so that I can stick it throught the plastic housing. I assume they may be left handed threads? How do I "lock" the drive shaft so that I can loosen the "metal chuck"?

What is the complete model number of the refrigerator?

The refrigerator is a Maytag not a GE…and the Model Number is MSD2454GR.

According to the instructions in the Service manual you have to hold the auger motor armature and turn the yoke CW.

Thanks very much. Looked at section 3. The motor had shattered the plastic housing and we have received the plastic replacement housing. So I need to remove the yoke… basically while it is on my work table. Can you suggest the best way to prevent the shaft from moving? The shaft is so short that I can not get a pair of pliers between the motor housing and the yoke. I’m thinking maybe needle nose vice grips?

You can try to use WD-40 and a needle nose pliers.

Thanks everybody…got the auger impeller detached and reattached…put it all back together and the motor will not work. checked everything…this is the second time I have taken it apart and put it back together. however this time the motor does not work.
I know I should have checked to see that it was working before I took it apart this time…but can any one help me figure out why the motor would not work?

Tape in the light switch on the freezer door frame. Remove the wires from the auger motor and check for 120 VAC to the motor while the dispenser calls for ice. Post the results.

The threaded auger moter shaft that the yoke is screwed onto is "reverse threads"…I held the shaft with meedle nose pliers and "tapted" the yoke
"clockwise" and it came loose fine.
