I just installed a new gearcase in my washer. Without adding the agitator the spindle would slowly spin. Once I added the agitator the machine wouldn’t spin. When I installed the gearcase the clutch was, I believe, opposite the brake. I think this is were my problem is.
Before replacing the gearcase everything else worked normally. The only thing the washer was doing was leaking oil in the basket as well as outside onto the floor.
Any suggestions?
Did you tighten the drive block nut on top of the spin basket and did you install the old clutch on top of the new tranny??

I have not checked the nut on top of the spin basket yet. I replaced the plastic washer and clip prior to reinstalling the agitator and screwing it back down. The clutch was installed over the gearcase. Once the clutch was in place I added the retainer clip and another washer before matching it up to the brake. At one point in time the gearcase was turning the clutch slowly before it matched up to the brake. After several revolutions it stopped turning.
If the basket moves easily, you probably have a loose nut, just check.
If ok, I would remove the pump and motor and turn the tranny coupler clockwise till the tranny engages spin. If very hard to turn, you have something jammed, probably the thrust washer on top of the tranny is not in place.
Thank you for your help. I will try this out and respond back.
You might have something stuck in the tub. I would remove pump and motor and turn the tranny coupler clockwise till the tranny engages spin. Keep on turning it. If it jams, check the tub by pulling the spin basket.
You may have put the thrust washer in wrong, just check, it has a tab on it that can jam.
I was finally able to get my washer running again tonight. I checked the thrust washer and turned the tranny until it would spin on its own inside the machine.
Thank you again for all of your great advice! I really appreciate it.
