I have an electric Maytag dryer (Atlantis series) with a start knob that is pulled out to start. That basically runs a timer behind it and the temperature setting is separate. The start knob has begun to not work most of the time, it is very intermittent. I pull out, nothing. Do it many times, rotate the knob to a different time, etc, nothing, then all of a sudden a pull works and the dryer goes fine.
The local dealer and its repair folks are pretty sure it is the timer unit behind the knob, with just one large wiring harness plugged into and the part number is 33002803. It retails for $100 but I have seen it for as low as $70.
Problem is one parts place quotes a need for a new timer harness to go along with it, and that is $60. I am wondering if the harness is really needed and if so, will it require me rewiring the whole dryer? Also wondering if the basic diagnosis as a mechanically bad timer seems correct .
Thanks for any help.
