I have a kitchenaid washer that was given to us a few weeks ago. It was working fine until this last week when I pulled the clothes out and the barrel had a little bit of water left in it. I ran it again and it filled and started but very quickly made horrible noises and would not finish washing but but kept running. WHen I put a screw driver to keep the lid switch locked while having the lid open I started to run it empty, if you put it on the spin cycle all the water does drain out fine but it does not spin at all. We took a look at the motor couplings last night and they are three pronged circles. The rubber peice was in one peice but had an extremely thin spot on the outer edge of the hole that goes over one prong, all the prongs are in one peice and there is rubber shavings in the area but no chunks. Everything I have read and looked up seems to say its this part, right down to the sound and slight rubber burning smell. But as far as I can tell the only peice with wear is the rubber middle piece but it does not look that bad but it also does not seem to stay in place either. Currently the motor is out and we cant get it back in but thats okay right now sense I think we need to get a new motor coupler. Am I on the right track that this is the problem or should we keep digging? About to have my 3rd kiddo so I need to get this up and running fast.
I could not find any information on the model number you posted.
Is the center of the motor coupling stripped out?
Should have two flat sides like the motor shaft.
I am honestly not sure how it is supposed to look to begin with. I know that the two plastic peices (one on transmission side and one on motor side) still have the pegs on and do not look damaged (I think) the rubber peice that goes between the two has some worn spots and does not appear to stay in place once the machine is started and it seems that the holes in the rubber that the pegs on the two plastic peices go into are now too big to stay in place correctly once the machine is running. Everything else looks good. Near as I can tell you can use the replacement parts made by whirlpool for this model but I can not find the model number anywhere either. It was sitting unused for a long time before we got it and was working fine until this started. The sound and behavior matches all videos and comments related to the motor couplings but I don’t have a good refernce point as to what they should look like when it is not the problem. The area that these peice are in is coated in new rubber shavings and it is clear that the rubber peice is worn out some and weakend on the outer edges and the holes are stretched.

In this video the coupler peices are circle like the current ones are. The new ones in the video clearly fit together tighter than what is in now. I am thinking it is atleast worth a shot for the price and it does appear that this part is currently worn enough to atleast need to be replaced soon if it is not the problem. I am unsure of what other source the problem could be than this. I must admit washers are not my forte as far as repairing goes. Sinks and the like I can do no problem.
