Kenmore chopper/impeller replacement

Thanks to this forum, I have been able to diagnose and begin repairs for my Kenmore dishwasher that has a problem with spraying water through the top and middle spray arms. I have followed the directions in the whirlpool Point Voyager manual to clean all of the gunk from the accumulator and inlet, and I have checked the chopper/impeller, which is clean.

Problem: it was easy to remove the chopper, but I am going crazy trying to re-install it! I have tried everything I can think of to get the screen in place and the impeller engaged, but I haven’t been able to.

I’ve searched all over the forum, and all I found was one poster commenting that this was tough to do, without noting how he finally did it. If there are any tricks or tips you know of, I’d really appreciate it.

I figured out what I was doing wrong after I saw actual photos of the correctly installed chopper.

I was trying to fit it into the slot that was closer to the motor, an all but impossible task. However, the proper slot was not very visible beforehand, given the lighting conditions here and the cloudy water.

The dishwasher now sprays very well. Thanks so much to the folks on this forum for helping me save some cash in a rescession and learn some new skills.
