We inherited a Kenmore electric dryer that only runs when you press down the start button. It heats up, the tumbler turns - but only with the start button depressed. You let off on the button and it stops.
I replaced the start switch but it didn’t fix the problem - at least it didn’t make it worse!
Cannot find any info using the given Model Number.
Need to find a wiring diagram in order to help.
Some units have a start relay, if yours does the relays coil may not be holding the contacts closed to keep the motor running.
Some units use one of the centrifugal switches, it is wired in parallel with the start button. Once the motor is rotating this switch is activated and keep power going to the motor.
Sorry about that, I forgot to include the 110. so the correct model number is 110.96585200
I’ve done some more searching around the internets and I have a couple things I’m going to try - vacuum out the motor, and swap identical relays (with different functions).
But any further advice you have would be great! I couldn’t find a wiring diagram anywhere - If you know where I could download one that would be a great help as well.
My Kenmore Dryer, Model # 110-62942100 purchased in 03/2002…has done this from time to time but now, it will NOT stay running, the kids have taped the button down to keep it running:confused:…I am going to vacuum out the base and clean the motor as best I can and try it again…I hate throwing parts at these things…only other repairs done to this unit was the heating element…guess it might be time to get out the Fluke.
Well, good news for my problem - it took me a while to figure out how to access the motor, but after taking off the front panel and looking under the drum, I saw a lot of lint. A lot of lint. I vacuumed it all out - I was very careful to try and get it all.
Buttoned it back up and gave it a shot - It worked! Not sure how it’s able to sense the lint build up, but I guess it does somehow. I hope your problem is solved as simply.
I cleaned out all the lint I could, tried jumping all the 2-wire switches I could find and still it will not run and get hot…I have read another thread that says it is most likely the main circuit board causing the problem…off to the Sears Parts store.
I have a cabinet mounted combination oven and microwave. I am attempting to replace the bulb in ceiling of the microwave section. From looking at the replacement bulb I can see that it is a threaded type. My problem is that I can turn the glass part of the bulb but the metal threaded section (the base) is not moving. Any recommendations on how to proceed?
Thanks.
This a a complete revision to my earlier post since I’ve have some additional information that significantly changes the description.
Thru looking at a exploded view diagram of the microwave and also talking to Whirlpool I have discovered that the bulb is a plug-in type halogen bulb. What I thought was the tip of the bulb is actually a lens covering the actual bulb. Therefore, the bulb can not be directly accessed from the inside of the microwave. Can anyone give me some direction as to the easiest way to access the area above the microwave chamber but below the oven exhaust flow area?
Unfortunately, an inexpensive replacement solution has not been found. I keep a small flashlight in a nearby drawer for those occasions where I really need to see something in the back. If the oven ever needs some other repair I will get the bulb changed at the same time.
After writing to you last night I did some further research. I think I found the solution. Go to the website below. Start at the end of the thread and read back toward the top. See "Kai" September 2009 posting and other comments. They are talking about a Kitchenaid "…308…", but I believe ours will work the same way (Kitchenaid made by Whirlpool). I’m buying the bulb today at a local store for under $4.00. Let me know what you think. http://www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=51232
I have a Kenmore 110.62942100 and have the same issue with it only running when the button is pushed. I swapped the relays and tried to run with no heat but it did not stay running. I have read my next step is to replace the motor or should I tear it apart and vacuum it out 1st?
