Kenmore refrigerator water dispenser

Problem: No dispensing cold water, but ice.

Diagnostics: (1) Disconnect the cold water line (coil) and purge it; (2) Replace/by-pass the dispensing water switch (in front); (3) Swap the solenoid valve core (in the back) between water and ice valve. Still get ice but no cold water.

Notes: (1) Hear the selenoid valve on ice side poping, but not one on water side; (2) Front Switch Board, including light on/off, Ice cube/crush are working properly. Dispenser lock/unlock is working well for ice, but unknow for water becase no water dispensing all the time.

Please suggest your cause of proplem and how to fix it. Also, how to pretest a solenoid valve to make sure it working before put it in (replace)?

Thank you,
Charley.

Hi Charley,

remove the wires from the water dispenser solenoid on the water inlet valve and attach the volt meter probes to the wires. Press the water dispenser lever and check for 120 VAC between the wires.

If the voltage reading is correct, replace the water inlet valve.
