Kenmore top load washer repeatedly breaks couplers

My kenmore washer will not spin or agitate. I have replaced the couplers 3 times and the one on the motor shears off every time. The agitator does not spin at all not even by hand. Anybody know the cause? Clutch? Brake? Transmission?

Turn the tranny coupler clockwise till spin engages. If it is very hard to turn, that would confirm sticking brake shoes. Go to my sticky "replacing direct drive washer brake shoes" for info.
If the brake shoes are ok, then someone is overloading the washer, or not using sufficient water. To confirm, when it fails again, turn the tranny coupler clockwise. If it takes a lot of turns to engage spin it failed in agitate mode.

the tranny coupler will not turn at all? I put new couplers on and when it begins to aggitate it is immediately that the coupler breaks. does it on an empty washer no clothes at all in it just water

Seems like you have a locked up tranny, can you turn the coupler counterclockwise?
