We have a Kenmore washer, 70 series, model number 110.22722100. It wil go through the entire cycle, but when it gets to the spin portion (twice during the cycle) it won’t spin. If I open the lid and shut it again, it will spin. So I’ve been doing that for months now. Getting old! Repair guy came and cleaned the dirty contacts in the timer, still didn’t do the trick. He says new timer, just checking to verify. If it was the timer, wouldn’t it stop altogether? It still goes through every cycle and advances, just hums when it get to the spin part unless you open and close the lid. Everything else works just fine. It agitates, it drains, etc. Just the spinning. Any ideas? We don’t have a lot of money and I would rather not throw it away on a timer that might not be the problem. Please help. Thank you so much!
My Admiral washer is doing the same thing . I replaced the timer and it still does it. I also replaced the lid switch and no luck.

Thanks for the info. I found a useful forum response on here that mentioned the coupler, the clutch, and maybe even the whole gear case. Not too excited about spending all that money and then "maybe" it will be fixed. Looking on Craig’s List now!
