Kitchen Aid Dishwasher with no water

I have a Kitchen Aid dishwasher. It was working fine till about a week ago when the unit first started to make a funny noise when the water started to run. Now, no water seems to be entering the dishwasher after pressing start and waiting five minutes. It appears the rinse cycle is draining water ok. I can hear the water run in the drain??? There is no water pooling in the unit when you open the door after the first several minutes and I don’t hear the water coming out of the sprayer arms?? :frowning:

Here are your parts. Your model number seems tyo be short a number of digits.

It can be a number of things.

The easiest way to check it to measure the voltage across the fill valve when the unit is supposed to be filling. It should be 120 volts AC.
If you have voltage then it is one of two things.

  1. The valve is shot.
  2. The screen filter on the input side of the valve is clogged solid with crud. Remove the valve from the unit and clean the screen. Do not permanently remove the screen from the valve as it is there to keep crud out of the valve which could hold it open and cause a flood.

If no voltage. (You may want to check this first)
Check that the overflow switch is activated.
Sometimes due to dirt etc. the float part of the switch actuator can get stuck in the up position and the unit thinks it is already full of water.
If it looks OK mechanically check that the switch contacts are OK.
If you can measure 120 volts across it when the unit is supposed to be filling then the switch is no good.

If the above does not isolate the problem.
Check for the voltage across the valve/overfill switch combo. If zero volts then either the control board is shot or a wire from the board to the valve/switch combo is no good.
