KitchenAid Dishwasher - not filling with water

The dishwasher turns on normally and runs through the entire wash cycle, but no fresh water fills the chamber. At the end of the cycle the detergent pellet is lying on the bottom of the chamber, dry and intact.

The "hat shaped" float cover in the front right corner spins and rise/falls freely by hand. I have not removed the float cover.

Thoughts anyone? This family of 4 is making a lot of dirty dishes! Thanks for the help.

The "1" in the given model number is actually an "i". I think!!

Remove the kick plate.
Check that the overfill/float switch is activated.
If yes, check across the water inlet valve for 120 volts when it should be filling.

If you have 120 volts then either the valve is toast or the screen filter is plugged.
Remove the valve from the unit and check/clean the screen filter on the input side of the valve. Do not remove it as it is there to keep crud out of the valve which could hold it open and cause a flood.

If there is no voltage across the valve, check across the float switch.
If there is voltage (120 volts) across it then it needs replacing as it is not closing.
If there is no voltage check across the valve and switch combo. They are wired in series.

If there is no voltage here, then check that the wires up to the control board are OK.
If they are then odds are that your control board is bad.

Thanks Denman. Since I posted I removed the valve from the dishwasher completely and tested for continuity across the electrical connections on the valve - ohm tester showed no continuity. Screen had 2-3 grains of grit, almost completely clean. I reinstalled the valve and test ran the dishwasher. And PRESTO, it was functioning normally. I’m ordering a replacement valve, I don’t trust this mystery fix to be long lasting.

I’m with you. I have been bitten too often in the past.
