My Kitchen Aide Refrigerator is not cooling the refrigerator side. The freezer is working fine. There is alot of ice or frost build up on the freezer side,so it might be working to hard. I had a repair man come and he told me that the vents were full of ice. He defrost them and it was working great for three weeks and know the vents are doing the same thing. There is nothing blocking the vents. I have vacummed the refrigerator, the door gaskets are good, plus the doors are shutting tight every time after opening.
The ice build-up in the freezer (especially if it’s snowy) means you have a defrost failure. This can be caused by a defrost heater or thermostat failure, or the adc (adaptive defrost control board)/defrost timer failure. You can check the first two rather easily: Remove everything from the freezer and let it defrost (unplug the machine). Remove the panel at the rear of the freezer compartment (inside it) to expose the evaporator. The heater will have two wires going up along the sides of the evaporator. Careful: the radiating fins are very sharp! Unplug the heater and test it for continuity. If there isn’t any, replae it. The thermostat is usually clipped to one of the evaporator coil tubes; about the size of a stack of 10 nickels. If it looks swollen, replace it. It should be open (have no continuity) at room temperature, and closed (have continuity) at freezing.
Had a tech come and look at the refrigerator and I mention the three possible solustions that were recommended. He told me (no) that he belives that I need to replace the defuser. He took the cover for the defuser off from the freezeer and refrigerator and took the ice off. At the bottom vent of the refrigerator he took the cover off and stared pooring hot water to defrost the ice that it had built up. What do you think should do, replace teh defuser?
He mention that the reason it is snowing on the freezer side is because the defuser is not passing enough cold air to the refrigerator side that it is to cold on the freezer side. He told me that the defuser is subpose to let cool air come in from the freezer and it is not opening all the time becuase it is freezing.
Please let me know what you think.
Not real sure what your tech is calling a "defuser". If you trust this tech, go with what he says. Keep us posted.
Have not had a chance to take the panel appart and check the three recommend solotions. My wife has been unplugging the refrigerator and pooring warn water down the bottom vent an removing the ice build up on the top vent and lower vent too. She is know telling me that food is freezing in the lower two meat and veggitable cuburds. Also on the lower two sheleves. Could this still be that same problem causing this issue.
