The ice chute on my Kitchen Aid side-by-side fridge is loose (partially detached from whatever it’s supposed to be attached to). When I press the ice lever, the clear plastic dispenser chute drops down and gets stuck, sending ice cubes everywhere (a real "I Love Lucy" moment). If I jimmy it back into place, the trap door closes, so no problem there. There is a plastic tab that attaches the chute to the dispenser lever, which is OK; the chute is detached somewhere on top where I can’t see.
I’ve been just getting ice from inside the freezer, but I’d really like to fix this. I looked at the schematics, but I couldn’t tell which parts I need. I presume I need a new ice chute, but what does it connect to? Like I said, the lever seems OK.
Thanks a million for your help!!
Hi.
Most likely you need an ice door kit 8201649
But before ordering it click on the picture and use the video clip for the instructions on how to take it a part and check everything yourself.
Here are the breakdown diagrams and http://www.appliancepartspros.com/dispenser-front-parts-for-whirlpool-ksrs27fgbt03.html
Please, post the results.
Simon.
Simon,
Thank you for the helpful information. I’m going to get my husband to help me gain access to the ice dispenser this weekend.
I think the ice door is OK… it’s the "ice guide" (2180224) that is disconnecting, probably from the "ice dispenser lever" (2180259). The ice chute where the ice comes out is actually fine, and the door is fine; it’s just the guide that keeps dropping down.
We’ll check on which parts are broken before we order anything.
The video was really helpful, by the way… thanks! You guys saved us a bundle on a new washing machine, when all we needed was a lid switch… now maybe we can fix the ice dispenser ourselves, too. Will let you know what we find out.
