LG Front-load LE error code

Our LG clothes washer (front-load model WM2301H*) began stopping mid-cycle with an LE code. I replaced the position sensor (thanks for a great video) and that improved the situation. But I still get an LE, and now a PF, with loads that measure at only three bars.

I have a slight growl during load sensing, a whirring noise during spin-down and, of course the LE.

Should I assume that the bearings are warn? There’s no evidence of leaking at the seal. Or could there be a simpler problem?

Thanks

Actually an LE error code means
Condition: Locked drive motor error

Check/Repair: Check the wire harness connections on the motor and the hall sensor (tachometer). Repair any wiring failures. If the wiring connections are sound, check for damaged motor components. Replace any damaged motor components. If there are no problems found with the motor, replace the hall sensor.

It may also be that the bearings are bad but try the previous check first.

I’ll bet you knew this already, but you were right. I took the easy way out after changing the position sensor myself with no success, and called the repair guy.

He went straight for the wiring harness and found a discontinuity at high-load currents. I never suspected it because 1) I don’t know what I’m doing, and 2) it looked like new.

Once he replaced the harness as well as the sensor, which had melted, everything worked.

I’m surprised the possibility of failure in the harness doesn’t show up more prominently. We need more advice from guys like you.
