I am having a problem with my refrigerator not cooling, fan working, and compressor hot but not working. I found a thread on here that helped me test the compressor and both windings read within normal range. The person in the thread said that if these were within normal range, then it was the relay overload that was bad. My problem is that when looking at the parts diagram, I don’t see an option for relay overload. I see a part called PTC Thermistor Assembly and a part called Overload Protect. Which of these is the part that I need to replace?
I am not sure exactly what these parts look like because there is no image available for them. The parts from my fridge are a grey plastic piece that is irregular shaped with a guide arm type appendage on it(i’m guessing this is overload protect) and a black rectangular block with two prongs that plug into the grey piece(i’m guessing this is the PTC Thermistor Assembly). Any help with picking out which part is the part that I need to replace would be greatly greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the reply. I’m assuming it is not. It is an Embraco EGX 90HLC. I have purchased a whirlpool relay that looks very similar that should be coming in today. Think I should be checking out the pcb as well?
I did, I purchased a relay kit with a few parts in it with the instructions stating use for embraco egy 80 and 90 model compressors. Think I should look for something else?
I appreciate your feedback. I purchased Whirlpool W10189190 which is almost identical. They are both made by Embraco and have the same ratings on the label. The only difference is that the pins at the top of the relay were more narrow than the original. What I did was open the relays for both and looked at the pcb inside. They are both identical, all the way down to the numbers printed on the board and all the soldering points on the pcb. I removed the PCB from the new and placed it in the old one with the old pins so they fit the wires. While I don’t like having to use different parts that are not recommended, I had no choice since the part is no longer in production. I am pretty confident that the relay is the exact same relay.
I appreciate all your feedback. I didnt mention it in the previous post, but the fridge runs fine now, just in case anyone runs into the same problem with this refrigerator.

Garysfl - My fridge is having the same problem yours had. Bought the LG recommended part for the Overhead and PTC , but the overhead does not match the original one . I can not access the PTC as it is sealed in the assembly. Wondering how you were able to open it up to switch out the component with that of the Whirlpool W10189190 . I will be interested to try the same , but my concern is how to open the sealed assembly. Your advise is greatly appreciated.
