LG WM8000HWA Leak Outer Tub Seal

Hello all - I just joined the forum

I have an LG WM8000HWA. After 3 yrs the bearing was rusted and shot and machine shook like crazy. I paid LG tech to come out and for reasonable fixed price they replaced outer tub, inner tub, bearings, etc. Has worked well since. That was about 2 or 2.5 years ago.

I recently noticed leaking water from underneath inside. Looking at internet I assumed bad tub to pump hose. But I diagnosed with paper underneath while observing through open back panel and it is definitely leak from the clamshell plastic outer tub. No leak from the hose, but decent amount of drips from the bottom left side of the clamshell seam. When in spin it shakes and that must flex tub enough for small leak.

I see one of the bolts on the top side is not all the way in. Maybe the tech didn’t do a good job snugging everything a few years ago when he took it all apart. I haven’t taken the front off yet so I can’t really see the condition of the underside of the tub and whether any bolts are not fully tight there.

I have 2 questions:

  1. Maybe I can just take off front panel and then access the lower tub seal bolts and snug them harder? Maybe they have gotten loose a bit. Then I don’t need to take all the hoses off and remove the whole tub? Also is there any torque specs on those bolts or you just hand tighten with a ratchet? I assume DO NOT use the 18V impact wrench that I use for lugnuts…might strip or break something.

  2. IF that doesn’t work or is a bad idea, I am curious why we need to remove the stator and rotor from the tub as shown in the video from this site in order to remove the tub from the machine? Is it because that is the only way to unclip the wire harnesses there? I was thinking if those can be unclipped why not just do that and leave the rotor and stator bolted to the tub while taking it out? Since I don’t need to do anything with the tub bearings seal at this point.

Any thoughts would be appreciated thanks.
