Lint escaping trap

Hi,

A couple of months ago we noticed our dryer was drying slowly. I checked the vents, and discovered the vent cover on the outsided of the house had lint build up. I cleaned it and the dryer worked fine again. But, lint has built up on the outside vent again. I cleaned it today as it was probably 75% blocked. What could be wearing out on our dryer that is letting all this lint past the trap? Considering we have lived in this house about 5 years, it seems to be getting exponentially worse. Could it be the trap itself, or a seal inside on the internal exhaust vent?

Thanks in advance for any help!!
