machine won't spin

our washer started making noises during cycle and clothes were still wet at end
I read to check the water pump to see if it was spinning freely
it wasn’t so I bought a new pump and installed it
noise was gone but the clothes were still wet
I found the machine was spinning slowly in spin cycle
I bought a thrust washer repair kit and a new belt from here
I installed it and now doesn’t spin at all
Is there another part defective or did I install the thrust washer kit poorly?
I read the directions and the adjustment did’t seem to go like it said it would
I could use a little help

thanks!
steve

It sounds like either there is excessive wear in the transmission, or the cam in the thrust bearing kit isn’t making the contact it should. When there is a clockwise rotation on the pulley, the cam ramps the bearing up far enough to release the brake, allowing the machine to spin. It’s the brake that makes it difficult to physically turn the basket by hand. Did you save the instructions that came with the kit?

thanks!
I thought maybe the basket had seized
I have the instructions and will take it apart again
the pulley spins freely clockwise, I noticed the the ramping mechanism on the bushing when I put it together, maybe it’s not applying enough force against the shaft to turn it

thanks again!

I just notice you said when the pulley spins clockwise it realeases the brake
why is the pulley spinning counter clockwise (looking from bottom) during the spin cycle?

Shoulda clarified…It’s a matter of perspective. I just assume once you see the action in one direction, you have enough sense to know to turn the thing in the opposite direction to check the other function.

ok I put a larger shim washer so it would push more on the cam
I think it released the brake because the basket started to spin during agitation
but during the spin cycle the basket still would not spin and there was some rumbling coming from under the basket
I’m guessing something in the tranny?

thanks man

It’s a rarer thing on a washer, but it sounds like the tranny’s the problem. During agitate, the spinner should remain stationary. Check with Tech Support…depending on its age, the transmission can still be covered by mfgr’s warranty.
