compact, or combo unit, which the washer wont spin or drain. wash, agitation cycle works fine. any idea?

This is a Frigidaire made machine sold under the GE label.
You will want to check out the lid switch, that sounds like your problem. If it is ok the timer could be the problem, since this model has an electric pump and it sounds like power is not getting to the motor or the pump.
lid switch fine; timer works on fill, and aggitate; there is power to pump at connector. motor does not hum or anything in spincycle, but does work on aggitate.

If the model number of the dryer could be provided, this will allow the most accurate information to be presented. Generally speaking, this would commonly be a failure in the start switch or the motor.
My ge dryer will not keep running.

This started right after you replaced the belt and belt broken switch?
-If- this started after your repair, the broken belt switch, broken belt switch arm, broken belt switch bracket would be the prime suspects.
Make sure the broken belt switch arm is in the correct position and moving the idler arm makes the switch "click".
Sometimes something gets bent a little during a repair and the dryer thinks the belt is broken and will not allow the dryer to continue running.
