Purchased a Maytag Atlantis off craigslist problem occurred during its first run but seller is less than helpful after passing me the half working washer.
Anyhow details
Washer will run like normal most of the time. If any other cycles are run besides the color setting on normal size the washer will begin filling with water and never stop. Like its draining at the same time its filling. It is corrected by manually putting the washer into spin cycle and allowing it to complete its spin. As soon as the spin ends and the breaks come on I can reset it back tfo the wash cycle and its good to go for the wash.
After reading up I am unsure if it is the AP4029054 Controller or perhaps the water pump as described in the quick faq before the forums.
If you can help me diagnose so I dont waste a hundred bucks on a part please let me know.
The only way it can drain is if the motor is running which drives the pump, or it is siphoning due to the drain standpipe being too low or you have an airtight connection between the drain pipe and standpipe.

The drain is piped all the way above the washer. Dont think its siphoning
since its intermittent and can be reset by the cycle.
So would this type of problem typically be the controller?
I guess I’m not understanding the symptoms. When your having the problem, is it filling all the way and switching to agitate yet still filling? Is it filling but never reaching the proper level to start agitating? Where is all this water going? It either has to be pumped out (motor running in spin mode) or it’s siphoning out the drain hose.
Eric
the symptom was just that it would be filling up and start draining after about 8 inches of water was in the drum. But after checking everything out that was initially suggested I found it to be a siphon problem. Although the hose went up the proper height it also went about 3 feet into the wall somehow. The total length of the hose was ridiculous. So it was in the wall well below the height of the washer with what was damn close to an airtight seal.
So thank you for the help. Everything seems to be back to normal on it.
