Maytag Blows High Limit Switch

Dryer overheated and tripped breaker. Later it overheated and blew the high limit switch. Replaced High Limit Switch and cleaned dryer vent system thoroughly. Also tested thermostats and heating element. Was curious about heating element result though. When I upluged the wires from it and tested each end of the element to the ground I had an open circuit as it should be, but when I tested the element itsself, I got a "0" resistance reading or closed circuit. All of the notes I see, say that I should have 10 to 12ohms through the element. Does a zero resistance have anything to do with why it is overheating and blowing the limit switch?

Yes it could if the reading is correct.
0 ohms is a dead short so should blow something as soon as the heater tries to turn on.
Your heating coil should be approximately 12 ohms.
It is important to use a sensitive meter scale (usually 200 ohms).
Higher ohm ranges will give a zero as they cannot resolve low readings re: not enough digits on the meter’s display.
