Maytag dishwasher won't drain

I have a 6 year old Maytag dishwasher. I will NEVER buy another one. About a year ago it started intermittently failing to drain. We couldn’t decide whether to try and get it fixed or just buy a new one. My husband is not mechanically inclined so my brother in law who is a washing machine repairman took a look at it and thought it needed a new pump. He ordered one, installed it, and I thought all was well,…for a few weeks. Then it started it again. It doesn’t do it everytime…just every few days I will open it up at the end of the cycle and there will be water in the bottom and it sometimes looks cloudy as if there is still dishwasher detergent in the water. Also, a line of scummy dirty stuff like food residue and gunk keeps forming in the front on the bottom right where the door shuts. It didn’t used to do that either…it’s as if food and dirty water are just being sloshed around and not going anywhere. :mad: But what gets me is that it doesn’t do it regularly only about every third washing. Yesterday I opened it up, and it was full of gunky water at the end of the cycle, so I shut the door and restarted a rinse cycle only and listened at the sink drain…I could here the water draining out, and sure enough when it finished it was empty??? My husband thinks something is clogging the drain, but if so why would it drain fine part of the time? It sounds to me more like something is screwed up in the control panel and the cycle isn’t proceeding correctly part of the time. Is a dishwasher this age worth calling a repairman out for? We live in the boondocks…it will cost $60. just for the trip. It is hooked up to drain through the garbage disposal, but we have not changed anything in the configuration since we built the house 6 years ago:confused:
