Maytag refrigerator went crazy!

Last week the display lights on the front panel began flashing on and off and the ice shoot door began to open and close. Also, the fridge temp rose to around 60 degrees. I have a extended warranty and called the warranty company. They sent out a repair person who after 3 visits in which he changed the circuit board behind the display twice and put on a new membrane, advised me that it must be the main control board in the rear of the unit which is bad and that the part is on back order until May 11th. I have since found the part on this website available for immediate shipping, however the repair company states they can only use the supplier they use. I am considering changing the board myself and was looking for any advise as to how straight forward the job would be. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Icefireguy,

That was a "classic" complaint on that style "Ice 2 O" refrigerator.

Yes you do need the main / HV control board located on the back of the unit.

Before you, or the servicer installs the new part,
A) Check and make sure the outlet for the fridge is a, 120 VAC,Polarized, and Grounded outlet.
B) Check your serial number off the production tag, there are several boards, the the proper board for the refrigerator is based on the "series" number, the first two numbers of the serial number is the series number.
C) While you’re getting the serial number, write down the four digit "CODE" number off the tag as well, you’ll need it, to program the new control board, so it will recognize what unit it is and accept the commands from the display board on the door panel.

Good Luck,
